Primer
Why Does New Drywall Need Primer?
New drywall has two different surfaces side by side: the paper face of the board and the joint compound over the seams and screws. They absorb paint at different rates, so paint applied straight onto new drywall can dry blotchy, with seams and patches showing through.
A coat of primer made for new drywall seals both surfaces so they take the finish coats evenly. Skipping it often means extra coats of paint later, and the seams may still show in the right light.

When Do Painters Come In During a Build?
On most builds, painting starts once the drywall is hung, taped, finished and sanded, and the dust has been cleaned up. Depending on the project, trim and doors are installed before painting or painted separately, and some builders put in flooring after the main painting is done while others protect finished floors.
Because every build runs on its own timeline, we coordinate with the builder or whoever is running the project on when the space is ready for paint. That keeps the paint crew from waiting on other trades, and keeps other trades from working around wet paint.
